Daejeon is called the "Middle City," as the city is at the center of South Korea. As a gateway to the Gyeongsang and Jeolla Provinces, Daejeon is 167.3km from Seoul, 238.2km from Busan and 169km from Gwangju.
Daejeon is where the Seoul-Busan Highway joins the Honam Highway, so the city is an important place in the nation’s traffic system. - C. Size
As of July of 2015, Daejeon was 539.98㎢ wide and home to 1,525,195 people. Therefore, Daejeon came in fifth among Korea’s six largest cities Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Incheon and Gwangju by size and population. By ward sizes, Yuseong-gu is the largest, followed by Dong-gu, Seo-gu, Daedeok-gu and Jung-gu.
